Farrier

Horseshoers Responsibilities

1. Confirm and keep appointments.

2.  Study farriery in depth and keep updated skills.

3. Explain fees in advance for all services.

4. Be well stocked and equipped for all types of shoeing.

5. Explain and answer all questions about the horse's individual shoeing needs.

Owners Responsibilities

1.  Have horses shod every 5-6 weeks and trimmed every 5-7 weeks in order to keep proper shape and foot balance.

2.  Schedule appointments 1 - 2 weeks in advance and keep them. Notify the farrier if you must cancel.

3.  Be available to hold the horse or provide someone that is familiar with the horse.

4.  Handle the horse's feet regularly. Tie the horse to teach it to stand for shoeing.

5.  Inform the horseshoer of any behavioral/ foot problems the horse may have.

6.  If you have any questions ask the farrier. They can give you the answers to your questions.

7.  Have the horse ready when the farrier arrives. Proper lighting and clean legs and feet will make the job easier and faster
